A strong password does not need to be a jumble you forget five minutes later. The practical goal is to make it long, difficult to predict, and unique to one account. Length matters because every added character increases the number of possible combinations an attacker would need to test.
Start with a long passphrase
Choose several unrelated words and combine them into a private phrase. Do not use a famous quotation, song title, address, birthday, pet name, or anything visible on your social profiles. A good passphrase feels memorable to you but has no obvious connection that another person could guess.
NIST recommends passwords of at least 15 characters and identifies length as the most important factor. If a website accepts longer passwords, use the extra space. You can also use the Tolibox password generator when you need a fully random password instead of a phrase.
Make every account different
Never recycle one strong password across several websites. A breach at one service can expose credentials that criminals may try elsewhere. Give email, banking, shopping, social, and work accounts separate passwords. Start with the accounts that could reset your other passwords, especially your primary email.
Store these passwords in a trusted password manager rather than in a public note, chat message, or unprotected document. Protect the manager with one long master passphrase and enable multi-factor authentication when available.

Is a memorable password always weak?
No. A long, private passphrase made from unrelated words can be both memorable and difficult to guess. Avoid predictable substitutions such as replacing an “a” with “@” in a common word.
Should I change passwords every month?
Change a password when it may have been exposed, reused, shared, or compromised. Routine changes can encourage weaker patterns unless your organization requires them.
