To check a writing limit, count the exact text you plan to submit, then compare the right measurement: words or characters. These are not interchangeable. A short sentence can contain four words but more than twenty characters once spaces and punctuation are included.
Check the correct part of your draft
- Read the submission instructions. Find out whether headings, references, and captions belong in the total.
- Copy only the required section into the Tolibox word and character counter.

Why two counters can disagree
Programs can handle hyphenated expressions, punctuation, and unusual symbols differently. Tolibox's English counter treats a hyphenated expression such as well-written as one word. A submission platform may apply a different rule. When a school, employer, or publisher names a particular counter, use its result for the final check.
